Basic Informations

1.      In Indonesia, halal certification is regulated and implemented by the Indonesian Halal Certification Authority (MUI), which audits and issues certification for a production entity in accordance with the Halal Law, ensuring compliance with the principles of the Halal Product Assurance System (SJPH).

2.      SJPH is an integrated system that is developed, implemented, and maintained to ensure the halal integrity and sustainability of producers in aspects such as raw material sourcing, production processing, and final product output.

3.      All goods commonly used on a daily basis — including food, beverages, medicines, cosmetics, chemical products, biological products, and genetically modified products — that are circulated and traded in Indonesia must be halal certified.

4.      To apply for halal certification in Indonesia, the following requirements must be met:

·       Appoint at least one Halal Supervisor who has completed halal training and holds a valid certificate;

·       Establish a Halal Management Team;

·       Provide halal certification for all raw materials involved in the production process (including food additives, pharmaceutical additives, cleaning agents, packaging materials, and other auxiliary materials);

·       Design and implement the SJPH (Halal Product Assurance System);

·       Ensure that all production equipment used is free from contact with non-halal substances (such as pork and other contaminants).

5.      The halal certification will remain valid as long as there are no changes to the product’s production process or its ingredients. Situations that require updating the halal certification include: modifications to the ingredient list, changes in the production process, or relocation of the factory.

6.      To ensure the halal integrity of a company’s production process and its products, BPJPH will conduct an on-site audit of the implementation of the SJPH every four years.

7.      Only products that are registered under the halal certification certificate are permitted to use the halal certification label. Products not listed in the certificate are strictly prohibited from using the halal label.
